Michael Fikaris is a multidisciplinary artist who is known for his spanning drawings, comics, printmaking, and street art. This Melbourne based artist, illustrator and mural painter was originally inspired by underground comics in high school which he says contain many skill sets. From creating his own comics, Fikaris went on to work in screenprinting, commercial printing and independent galleries. Fikaris’ comics later transformed to work on the streets in the early 2000’s when he began to exhibit in the light box art gallery called ‘Citylights Projects’. Renting a studio in now famous Hosier Lane, Melbourne at this time and postering his comics within unused laneways, he found himself part of new movement - street art. This was a not only a creative process for Fikaris, as he was collaborating and learning with other artists, but it soon became a lifestyle - alongside continuous group shows and comic zine creations, Fikaris was always putting art on the streets.
Fikaris’ artistic oeuvre has since allowed him to experience diverse opportunities around the globe including live paintings in Lisboa, Portugal; Sheffield, England; Bangkok, Thailand; Paris France, Yogyakarta, Indonesia; Auckland, New Zealand; Dili, East Timor and in many locations around Australia. Recently he was commissioned to install a giant permanent painting in the City of Melbourne in Lees Place laneway which has a small cabinet built into it at street level containing free foldout zines for any who visit the site. His work is held in permanent collections with the National Gallery of Victoria (Living Artists Collection), State Library of Victoria (Artists’ Books Collection) and National Gallery of Australia (Book Arts Collection).
In 2022. Michael continues to work on commissions and has a new show in Barcelona in late November.
Some of Michael Fikaris’s work is being displayed as part of the STREET ART ALIVE experience at THE LUME Los Angeles. A selection of beautiful animated artwork pieces have been created into NFTs. This limited collection of NFT’s are rare pieces from Fikaris, they are hidden in lanes all over the world.

"I make art that is both downcast and hopeful, whether monotone or colourful, my pieces are always confident and sure."
